Carbon Reduction Plan Policy

Net Zero Carbon Reduction Plan - Coherence

Our commitment

Coherence is committed to reducing our impact of its operations on the environment through its environmental policies. The goal is to promote sustainability and environmental awareness at all levels of the business by:

  • Complying with all applicable environmental legislation and sustainability commitments
  • Measuring and analysing the carbon footprint / greenhouse gas emissions of our business activities in conjunction with our sustainability initiatives
  • Preventing pollution and reducing consumption of resources through waste management strategies that promote waste minimisation, re-use and recycling
  • Promoting and continuing to invest in technologies that provide alternatives to business travel
  • Adopting a procurement programme which takes into account the environmental impact of products and services and supports the purchase of sustainable products
  • Ensure our team members are aware of the environmental impacts of their work and encourage them through regular awareness and training to minimise those impacts
  • Pursuing a programme of continuous improvement by reviewing and tracking our environmental objectives, targets, policies and practices.

Missions, vision and beliefs

Our mission is to provide innovative and effective solutions which help our clients grow their businesses and realise their marketing goals. Committed to delivering high-quality services, we strive to stay ahead of the curve by leveraging the latest digital marketing trends and technologies to benefit our clients.

We believe in sustainable business practices that minimise our environmental footprint. This includes reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting digital solutions that lessen the need for physical resources. We understand the impact of our decisions on the environment and strive to make choices that are beneficial or neutral to our planet.

Framework

Below is the framework that guides our ongoing environmental efforts, which provides a structured approach to managing our environmental impact, helping us to make meaningful and sustained improvements over time.

  1. Environmental Policy. We’ve established this clear environmental policy that outlines our commitment to reducing our environmental impact. This policy is communicated to all team members, stakeholders and our sustainability assessment partners.
  2. Goals and Objectives. We set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals related to our environmental objectives.
  3. Monitoring, evaluation and improvement. These goals are annually monitored and evaluated against our environmental performance. This involves collecting data on our energy use, waste production, and implementation of increasingly sustainable solutions.
  4. Communication and Engagement. Engagement with our team members and our clients is paramount when we deliver on our environmental and sustainability objectives. Our team members help to define our solutions and they do this through the lens of sustainability to ensure our applications and products are right-sized and use clean energy. We regularly analyse our clients’ solutions, with the aim of making them more efficient as time goes on, and we report on the impact that we’ve had. Showing how we’re improving through our sustainability assessment partners adds credence to our work.

Our targets

Our targets drive the day to day operation of our business. Achieving these requires a collective effort, as well as taking the action needed to meet them.

Energy consumption

100% renewable hosting energy

We use several hosting providers, some of which have cloud applications hosted on other cloud environments. Using cloud environments, which are powered by 100% renewable energy, is our aim by 2030, if not sooner. The providers we’re working with also have this aspiration.

Greenhouse gas emissions and environmental targets

Measuring our emissions

In 2022, our carbon footprint was 23tCO2. Our aim, between now and 2025, is to keep our carbon footprint around 20tCO2 or lower, and not to exceed 25tCO2.

Our environmental targets

By 2030 we aim to have net zero carbon emissions.

##

Environmentally conscious products

Environmental consciousness is prevalent in everything that we do at Coherence and at every stage of our process. This includes but isn’t limited to:

  • Creating ethical and sustainable product strategies
  • Using renewal hosting energy, creating efficient and fit for purpose infrastructure, only storing data that’s needed
  • Sustainable visual design without the need for heavy video or animation files, and the use of design patterns
  • Reducing load time and memory usage, creating modular and minified code, mobile first, and avoiding custom queries.

We’ve created sustainability considerations for each discipline within our business and will continue to evolve these as we gain further data on our activities and as global sustainability initiatives come to fruition.

Being informed and our environmental ways of working

Our team members are central to our business and we work with them to understand how we can do things more sustainably.

Through our onboarding process, and throughout our team members tenure, we build up their knowledge base, increasing their sustainability IQ and inspire them to think about how our business can operate more efficiently. This is done through our sustainability ways of working and by working with our partners Greenly and Ecovadis.

Keeping up to date with sustainability trends allows our team members to deliver well-considered client solutions. These are then monitored to ensure they remain as sustainable as possible.
